New River Community and Technical College is seeking a part-time Adjunct HVAC Instructor who is passionate about sharing industry knowledge and helping students launch successful careers. As an Adjunct Instructor, youll teach both hands-on lab and classroom-based HVAC courses, blending real-world experience with industry-aligned curriculum. Youll prepare students for entry-level HVAC employment, industry credentials (such as EPA 608), and long-term career success.

This role reports to the Dean of Workforce, Technical, and Community Education Programs, working closely with the Department Chair to support student learning, program growth, and community engagement.

What Youll Do

Teach & Inspire

• Deliver engaging HVAC instruction in lab and classroom settings
• Teach topics such as electrical systems, refrigeration, diagnostics, safety, and installation
• Provide hands-on, experiential learning aligned with industry standards
• Prepare students for workforce readiness and credentialing exams (e.g., EPA 608)

Support Student Success

• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and professional learning environment
• Advise and mentor students on coursework, career pathways, and program goals
• Be accessible to students for academic support and guidance

Academic Responsibilities

• Develop and distribute course syllabi with clear objectives and outcomes
• Prepare lessons, assignments, quizzes, and exams
• Evaluate student performance and submit grades through the colleges LMS
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and progress
• Administer student evaluations and pre-/post-tests as required

Program & Community Engagement

• Participate in recruitment and outreach events
• Represent the HVAC program at college and community events
• Assist with curriculum updates and lab improvements
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to support program excellence

What Were Looking For

Required Qualifications

• HVAC industry experience as a technician
• EPA 608 Certification
• HVAC industry credential (e.g., NATE, HVAC Excellence)
• One of the following:
  • Bachelors degree in HVAC or related field
  • Associate degree with valid licensure
  • High School/GED with significant documented industry experience
• Ability to teach using a combination of education and hands-on experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience
• Experience using or willingness to learn a Learning Management System (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, etc.)

Skills & Abilities

• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to engage adult learners in a hands-on environment
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, student-centered setting
• Willingness to promote the program to industry and community partners
